Meet The Artist Behind Squido Co
Meet the founder behind the start-up, Squido Co, a company created by Sydney Owens, an independent artist who takes the bland and turns it into pieces of art. Sydney is an Indy based interior designer who took her hobby of painting clothes to the next level. Her craftiness, DIY attitude, and spunk has sparked her side hustle, Squido Co, to become one of the most promising and successful businesses of 2018. As a Pittsburgh native, Sydney finds that her style mirrors the pop-art demigod, Andy Warhol. Her artistic expression, use of vibrant colors and illustrations are a subtle tribute to the leading figure of the visual arts movement, Mr. Warhol himself, but do not get confused, Sydney customizes each piece she paints to her customers wants, needs and desires. Andy might be her kryptonite, but Gerogia O'keeffe is mine. Sydney, being one of my best mates, reconstructed and painted my vintage Gap Denim jacket to incorporate my favorite O'keeffe painting of a "Cow Skull with Calico Roses" on the back with special touches of embroidery, beading and patches here and there. Talk about an artistic wizard. Some people might only see art as objects that should be hung on a nail, but Syd finds clothes as her ideal blank canvas. Bravo to the creative minds and recycle savvy artists of Generation Z. Syd, you cease to amaze me.
"Art and fashion are two of my deepest passions. I love experimenting with different styles when it comes to my wardrobe and I am not afraid of wearing things that are outside the box. I think I️t makes life more interesting! Why wear boring clothes, when you can wear something that is a conversation piece!?"
"Now when it comes to art, painting is my preferred medium. Painting on clothes gives me a new canvas to work with. It especially allows my work to be seen by more of the outside world, which is always a bonus. I think a definite driving force for the creation of Squido Co was from wanting to wear pieces that were not being made by major designers. I had a vision and brought it to fruition. I think my designs also offer a little insight into the personality of the individual who wears them. Whether the designs be inspired by that persons favorite artist, sports team or musician, the pieces can be very personal. We all don’t go around proclaiming to every stranger we meet that our favorite artist is Andy Warhol (well maybe not all of us...), but having a piece of clothing that shows a bit of your personality, something that defines you from the rest of the crowd, makes you more interesting. Squido Co is all about taking ordinary clothes and turning them into some extraordinary."
