"Hit The Road"
My collection “Hit The Road” is based off my childhood road trips, a continued love of travel, and an enchantment with life’s odyssey. I believe in the power of understanding, embracing, and learning new cultures. I wanted to share my passion for history, my pursuit of adventure, and the cornucopia of life’s treasures throughout these designs. I created this collection for women who have an inclination for freedom, a tenacity for individuality, and a lust for exploration. Not only can you see an accurate representation of my design aesthetic, but also my personal values. I truly believe comfort is key, and beauty can be seen through silhouettes. I wanted to incorporate every aspect of my beliefs into this collection and depict my on-the-go lifestyle with a fresh and courageous twist.
My inspiration was sparked over the summer when I lived on my own. I loved exploring, watching sunsets, and experiencing new foods. For awhile, I was honestly stumped about what I wanted to base my senior collection on. I have a very “wing it” type of attitude, and so to hunker down on one idea was intimidating to me. The overall concept emerged the day that one of my best friends returned from her travels in Africa. She brought me back authentic Tanzanian Kente cloth from her study abroad trip. The fabric was so vibrant, and her stories were equally inspired and colorful. I already knew I wanted to incorporate my desire to travel and my love for different cultures into my collection. It was perfect. I chose to base my collection on the radiant glow and excitement of people’s emotions after their trips. I looked for natural cottons, breathable fabrics, and earthy tones that reflected the ideal wardrobe for traveling.
