A Modern Feminist

Hello my fellow leading ladies! With women’s history month just around the corner, I thought it was time to honor all the badass women that have inspired, encouraged and empowered both me and womankind. To name drop a few like, Michelle Obama, Elizabeth warren, Madeleine Albright, rosa parks, The notorious RBG, Nancy Pelosi, Phoebe Robinson, CLeo Wade, roxanne gay, Frida Kahlo, Millie Bobby Brown, Audrey GElman, Emma WAtson, yara Shahidi, Tracee Ellis Ross, Oprah, Rowan Blanchard, Reese Witherspoon, ally Raisman, and so many more, have helped advance and educate the masses on the future of intersectional feminism. Luckily I was raised by a powerful, brilliant, and tenacious mom who has always advocated for women’s rights and equality of the sexes. I was raised to be emotionally aware, not afraid of sharing my intelligence or belittling myself for the comfort of men’s egos. I grew up with a dad who cooked, cleaned, made lunches, and took us to soccer practice. I never considered it reverse gender roles, but just another Tuesday. I am lucky and blessed to be surrounded by stable, encouraging, and brilliant minded people, that fight for and respect women. I am part of the revolution and plan to be until little girls only know the words equal rights and matriarchy.

it would be an understatement for me to say that I could understand what my grandmothers or my mom endured, but i too have been taunted, ignored and underestimated because of my gender. to The people who did that to me in the past, good riddance. I refuse to be objectified or demonized just because of my gender. I cannot comprehend how women are still being harassed, assaulted, and used, as if that is our world’s normality. our time is now. We will not accept or live in a world where being Expressive, emotional, or unreasonable is used as the logic behind why women can’t occupy the same positions as men. Time is up. I am not pointing fingers or grouping men as a whole, but acknowledging the weight, fury and disadvantages women face everyday is a great start. I can’t wait to live in a world where power is based solely on creativity, intelligence and innovation, not physical strength, wealth or gender. I am hopeful that all of our efforts and activism will bring about real, positive change. It starts with raising girls to be independent and for boys to evaluate their masculinity. Boys need to embrace their emotional selves and leave behind their fears and misogynistic attitudes. A women’s success should not be a threat, but a relief that two people can do the job and do it equally well.
