Full Millennial
I am about to go full Millennial on you and show my age. I have been a YouTube stan since 08’ when Usher discovered Justin Bieber. The dark ages if you will. A time of beauty gurus and Vine shorts. A place where iconic songs exploded and Mad TV made mini sitcoms, such as “Can I have your number?”. I thought I would grow out of my Youtube stage after college, but then came the evolution of Vloggers. An even darker hole of young adults capturing their ‘day-to-day’ lives of outrageous pranks and wild run-ins with celebrities. I was engrossed with watching a life I would never have and honestly didn’t want. It was way too chaotic and filled with pressure that eventually made most YouTubers crack. I finally found my people on Youtube when I stumbled upon the interior design, clothes styling, New York YouTubers, finally fulfilling my need for creative and inspiring content. That is where I lead you today. To a list of my comfort YouTubers that scratch an itch of all the ideas, adventures and goals I want to do and accomplish. They each bring their own Je ne sais quoi to the screen that I find stimulating and fun.
Lauren Louise - She gives the best book recommendations and promotes sustainable + healthy living without the pressures of making everything aesthetic. She makes living a well-rounded life feel very attainable, with the bonus of making slow living look ideal.
Margot Lee- I have watched her journey since college and she has been very open about her strengths and failures though adulthood, Her videos are very calming and she’s a small business owner who documents her successes while also being vulnerable about balancing her life with being her own boss.
Alexander Gater - A home DIY designer who started her interior design business on Youtube. She is very colorful and whimsical with her designs and makes home improvements that feel doable. I started watching her Studio makeovers when I lived in a Studio apartment of my own and needed ideas on how to make the most of my space. She is also very warm and shows her mistakes during makeovers furthering her relatability.
Hannah Lee Duggan - The most salt-of-the-earth, self-starter who not only sews her own clothes, but has been renovating her house by herself for the past year. From Van life to roughing it in the woods, she truly shows how strong and capable a single woman can be. She is also compassionate and creative, vlogging her many projects whether that be helping out a friend, fixing her cars, building a deck or planting her own garden.
Trixie Mattel - For the girls and the gays, Trixie is the ultimate beauty guru and Drag Queen, quenching my thirst for the fabulous and outrageous. Her dry sense of humor and Midwest charm is the perfect concoction of satire and relatability, really hitting home for anyone who has self depreciating humor. Also, I need to give a quick shoutout to her mini series with Katya, “UNhhh” that has the best editing team on Youtube and hosts with the most undeniable chemistry.
Brooke Epps - She has the most infectious laugh and positive attitude, you can’t help but smile every time you watch one of her videos. She films her videos with her family and friends with the feeling of watching a home-video, almost to the point of feeling you are in on their inside jokes. She’s goofy and doesn’t take life too seriously. It is refreshing to watch someone take snippets of candid moments that are filled with joy and laughter.
Royal Court - A celebrity talk show hosted by Brittany Broski where she puts her guests through a series of “tests”, tailored to their personalties, to see if they pass in order to join her “Medieval council”. She touches on all things pop culture, while creating a comfortable environment that allows for her guests to be genuine and goofy. She truly created a platform for “Fan girls” to feel seen with her relatable giddiness and bashfulness when meeting her celebrity crushes.
